Really, 2022? Betty White was bad. Bob Saget sucked. But this one is a huge kick in the nuts for your ol pal Pete. Gilbert Gottfried was one of my all time favorite comedians. And when I say all time, I mean it. Top 3 easily. Now, a lot of you might just know him as the guy with the annoying voice or the parrot in Aladdin (or a trillion other cartoons, for that matter) but this guy was undeniably, undoubtably, incomprehensibly funny.
Back in the 90's and early 2000's, Gilbert's appearances on the Howard Stern show became the stuff of legend and must listen material. He was absolutely fearless in "going there" and still to this day is a big influence on my sense of humor. He'd joke and laugh about absolutely anything, especially the darkest and most inappropriate of subjects, and whether you went along with it or didn't, you couldn't help but respect Gilbert Gottfried's ability to try and get laughs where there seemingly were none.
More recently, Gilbert had a very entertaining podcast, "Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast", co-hosted with MAD magazine writer Frank Santopadre. Gilbert would invite not only other great stand up comics to the show, but also had many old Hollywood stars on to discuss behind the scenes tales from films and television of decades past. Believe me, the stories a lot of these folks have are incredible to listen to and I strongly recommend you check them out if you're interested.
Well. I'm off to go listen to old Stern clips of Gilbert and try not to get too bummed out over the loss of an absolute comedic titan. Godspeed, Gilbert.

I always wanted to see Gilbert do stand up. I've been a fan of his since the late 80s when he would host late night B movies on the USA network on Saturdays on a show called "Up all Night". I loved when he would Visit Howard Stern, Gilbert and Artie Lange were great together (reason why I feel Howard wouldn't have Gilbert on anymore because Gilbert and Artie overpowered him--now Artie Lange is a guy who has 9 Lives)! I would also listen to Gilbert's podcasts.
Yeah, Bob Saget, Norm MacDonald and Gilbert gone sucks. Very few greats are left in comedy. I love Nick Dipaulo. I still love watching old comedy shows of Judy Tanuta, Emo Phillips, Rosanne--even Rosie O'Donnell was funny years and years ago until she became this mean spirited monster. I liked when she hosted VH1 Stand Up. I liked watching MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour. Joan Rivers was great--I loved her when she hosted the Tonight Show then she go her own show on Fox. I have been watching Jim Breuer lately.
Those were the days....
