So, while waiting at the car dealership for an inspection sticker this afternoon, I had an idea for a post. Seeing as many comic fans also are/were into collectable card games, I got to thinking it might be a neat topic to post.
One CCG I was super into back in the day was the old Highlander card game from the mid 90s. It was pretty scarce in my neck of the woods, so I'd have to travel long distances just to find them and have to trade for cards I wanted (sometimes brutally one-sided trades) but now with the advent of ebay I've been able to grab a metric ton of cards for cheap!
I've recently started getting into the Doomtown card game, which as a fan of westerns is right up my alley.
My kid discovered the world of Pokemon, which admittedly hes more into the collecting than playing phase. I think that will be changing within the year and I'm likely going to get roped into playing once hes old enough!
So, what about you? What games are you into? Let's hear it!

D-D-D-D-DUEL!!!
YU-GI-OH is coming up a ton in this thread, and while it was a little after my time I'm pretty sure my son will get into it! It's still around, I see it at stores everywhere I go.
I first started with the Pokemon trading card game moved on to YU-GI-OH duel monsters tried out Duel masters didn't bother with magic went back to YU-GI-OH and just stopped.
Hi Peter, I've played TCG since 94 So, yes Magic, but also a lot of games now forgotten. Highlander was kinda silly but at least the images were good, I think I still have one or two promo cards of that game via InQuest. Doomtown is a great card game with cool mechanics, feels really good when you had those shootouts and a posse of silver and copper bullets to draw from, (no cheating decks please), I still have 3 or 4 decks stored somewhere in my house. Also have a very bad pokemon deck from the time Wizards did the first english release. (No Foil Charizards sadly Blastbeat). Others of mention along the years:
Legend of the five Rings, that is a very underrated game an one of the best all time, it had a great lore in a fantasy inspired, medieval Japan-China. nice graphic design (which btw became progressively worse as time and editions pass). Crane and Lion clans rule
Overpower, a very silly but superfun and simple game with Marvel characters.
Mechwarrior, designed by Richard Garfield himself.
Vampire The Eternal Struggle (VTES) originally known as Jyhad. Best multiplayer TCG to this day.
Guardians, amazing art, good gameplay, sadly lost in a glut of other games.
Hyborian Gates, not a good game but It was all art by Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell, so at the worst it had great images.
Groo the game, That one is also very fun.
Netrunner, another one originally designed by Garfield, great to play, good art, and since then evolved into a deckbuilder game (you can buy a box that lets you build many decks to play each time and has chips, tokens etc. )
Im shutting myself up since I don't want to bore everyone. Peace.
Cardfight!! Vanguard, Weiß Schwarz, Luck & Logic, Fire Emblem Cipher, Force of Will, MTG and Pokemon. There's also Shadowverse, Teppen and Hearthstone if you want to count those. XD
I am currently all in with Pokemon TCG. Grew up playing MTG when it was in the Unlimited and Revised era. As a teenager Pokemon was too young for me. Nothing beat my Seraph Angel!
With kids now nothing beats my Scorbunny!
I use to religiously collect YGO and MTG back when I was a teenager but I moved away from that to spend my money solely on comics as my collecting habit. Still play ygo duel links on my phone and looking forward to mtg arena coming to mobile also.
I reached Mythic Rank in MTG Arena today. Second straight month. I'm in the top 10% of Standard players in the world.
I played Magic The Gathering from 1998 to 2012, collected from 1994 to 2014. I kicked the cardboard addiction when I moved away from my usual kitchen counter MTG pals.
I sort of played Magic but my friends were always kicking my ass so I didn’t enjoy it as much. I played the shit outta YGO and was actually pretty decent. I still love YGO. Good times
As a kid I did collect Pokemon cards (I was a sucker for fire types), Digimon cards (mostly for Angelwomon) and Yu-Gi-Oh cards, mostly for the designs I never played any games with them though.
I'm a tournament MTG player. Right now, I'm crushing weirdos with Gruul Adventures in Standard on MTG Arena. I don't think I'm the Elf King or any of that silliness. I never followed the back story at all. I'm here to win. I play like the Waterboy.
